In the 1920s in Oklahoma, Cleo, a bright 15-year-old farm girl runs away from home to go to Tibet. It's her ambition after reading a book. To earn the fare she plays the trumpet in a speakeasy. She has an affair, on the rebound marries the owner, has two children. Ten years later he and the children are killed. She moves to California, meets the man with whom she had the affair, they marry, divorce, she returns to Oklahoma and has a child out of wedlock. Goodbye Tibet.
