This project, as it turned out, was in the making for over 40 years. As a young ranger, Joe Kelley had an obsession to locate the Meigs Survey Line where it goes through the Great Smoky Mountaing National Park. He used notes from his mentor, ranger John Morrell. The line was the 1797 boundary between the U.S. and the Cherokee Nation. Along with ranger Dwight McCarter, he created a story of an older ranger getting lost in the mountains while searching for the line, and a younger ranger tracking him. It takes the reader through some "dark and snakey places". The reader will not want to put it down until finished.
